Award Selection Process

Scholarship Emphasis

With an emphasis in service, in the interest of helping students of Kearns High School to develop a meaningful and successful life through service and positive self-development.

Criteria for the Alumni scholarship award would be a sincere interest in a life of service, whether through work or community efforts.  Many personal and civic benefits come through service opportunities and working with underprivileged groups. The sincerity of the individual would be expressed through personal interviews, written responses and recommendations by school leaders, teachers or community leaders. Additionally, a students efforts in local community service will add to their being awarded  the scholarship.

The Student

Believing that involving young people in service to others brings many lifelong benefits, the Kearns High Alumni Scholarship would provide an opportunity for a graduating student to be involved in local and international service opportunities.

  1. Recipient has shown willingness in past to serve community and other students
  2. Recipient has desire to provide ongoing support and service to local and international community.
  3. Recipient would be willing to mentor future award recipients and assist in perpetuating the Kearns High Alumni Scholarship and it’s purposes.
  4. Recipient is willing to be a part of a 30+ day international service project providing service to underprivileged groups. Serving opportunities are provided in a “variety of community development projects (to) deepen understanding of on-the-ground realities in local contexts, while immersing (themselves) in diverse perspectives and cultures from all over the world. This is a chance to enhance their skill set, learn a new language, develop an appreciation for (their) own place in the world, and curate the adventure of a lifetime.”
