"Extending our positive influence beyond our years to as many Kearns High Students as possible, and to accentuate the good that has been bestowed upon us through our education and multifaceted experiences while attending Kearns High ."
An endowment fund is a permanent, self-sustaining source of funding. Endowment assets are invested and then each year, a portion of the value of the fund is paid out to support the fund’s purpose. Earnings in excess of this distribution are used to build the fund’s market value. In this way, an endowment fund can grow and provide support for its designated purpose in perpetuity. The minimum amount necessary to establish an endowed scholarship is $25,000. The minimum amount must be raised within two years from the point of the first gift.
If unsuccessful in securing an endowment, the money will be used for the established intent until the balance of the account reaches zero. Once established, this scholarship will support students who meet the scholarship criteria.
In the event the scholarship becomes impracticable or wasteful or impairs the management or investment of the fund or can no longer be satisfied for reasons not foreseeable at this time, the endowment will be authorized to use the scholarship for another purpose that adheres as closely as possible to the original intent scholarship.
Contributions from alumni of Kearns High School will be sought to meet the endowment minimum. Once the minimum is reached, the endowment funds will be invested for one full year before scholarship awards will be offered.
Awarding of the yearly scholarship will be directed by a board of 3 members. With members being chosen from Kearns Alumni. Members of the board will be added as needed, nominated by existing Board members, with a unanimous vote. One member will be selected as the “Chair”. The Chair will organize meetings of the Board and work with members to perpetuate the ongoing Endowment, presentations and marketing to Kearns High students, Faculty and Counselors. As well as reviewing applications and selecting award recipients.
